Smart B. (1987) is a Portuguese photographer who started out as a graffiti writer in the illegal train scene around Lisbon in the late 1990s. He first picked up a camera to document his work on trains and has been hooked ever since. After a stint as a photojournalist he has been focusing on his own personal projects and still documenting the train scene, mostly around Europe. He first exhibited his work at the inaugural Underdogs group show in 2010. Self-taught, he works in an intuitive, spontaneous way, capturing the essence of lives in the chaos of the urban environment and the poetics of rebellion in contrasts of light and shade. He lives and works in London.
