Bráulio Amado // solo exhibition
Share
2800 — 10009 is, first of all, a geographic range whose numeral markers correspond to the postcodes of Almada and New York. Born in the former and currently residing in the latter, these are cities which Bráulio Amado knows well and which have exercised a particular influence on the construction of his identity and his oeuvre, both graphic and artistic. This small exhibition sets off from this dual condition of a Portuguese from Almada and an immigrant in America to reflect on a path and an oeuvre in all multifaceted and heterogeneous. Revealing the influence of this mix of cultures and experiences, the set of works presented here – in the form of digital prints, screen prints, and light boxes – expresses his love for exploring and experimenting with different styles and visual languages without reserve or limitations that has characterised his practice throughout the years.
As the artist himself states:
It's weird that I've been in New York for nearly nine years and I still feel that at any given moment the adventure will come to an end and I will have to return to Portugal, which is not entirely in my plans. But that feeling provides some freedom in the way I face certain things, including my work. The fun of creating is to discover new things. The fun of discovering new things is to see what that can create. These works somewhat explore the idea of identity, or the lack of, or its transformation and mutation.
