Tamara Alves // NaLata Festival

In October 2024, Underdogs, supported by DGArtes, took Portuguese artists Tamara Alves and Nuno Viegas to São Paulo, Brazil, for the NaLata Festival, one of the world’s premier celebrations of public art. Their striking murals added two new international interventions to the Underdogs Public Art Programme, leaving a lasting impression in the vibrant neighbourhood of Pinheiros.

On Rua Mourato Coelho, Tamara Alves created A Fera (The Beast) – a stunning mural that fuses the strength of the feminine with the untamed spirit of the wild. A female figure juxtaposed with a leopard reflects a shared, primal force, inviting viewers to explore the connection between the human and the animal, accompanied by the words of Clarice Lispector: Eu sou uma chama acesa! E rebrilho e rebrilho toda essa escuridão (I am a burning flame! And I shine and shine through all this darkness).
