Academic Carrer
McGee earned a BFA in Painting & Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1991. While his roots are in graffiti and street culture, his formal training provided the foundation for the mix of fine-art and urban practices that define his work.
Professional Carrer
After emerging in the late 1980s/early 1990s graffiti scene in San Francisco (tagged “Twist”), McGee moved into gallery and museum contexts, bridging street art and contemporary fine art. He has exhibited extensively worldwide, created large-scale installations, and is recognized as a key figure in the urban-art to institutional-art crossover.
