Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.
Take a number is an exhibition about waiting and about time, about the respect that the natural pace of things demands and about the inevitable realisation, and subsequent acceptance, that there are things over which we do not, and never will, have control. Yet it is also an exhibition about that fundamental human characteristic that dictates that, despite this inevitability, we will continue to believe, to hope, that perhaps it might not always be so.
Between linear dispositions and random arrangements, this poetic reflection is presented here in the form of a body of work divided into three sets of meticulous and richly textural drawings created with recourse to dry pastel and graphite. Seemingly unconnected, these three sets follow an intuitive logic through which the artist shares with us her considerations on a universe of possibilities and impossibilities.
