Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.
Conceived as the second part of an intimist reflection – with the first instalment, entitled “The waking, the sleeping and all the nihilism in between”, currently showing at Artgang gallery in Montreal, Canada –, ‘The people, the dying and all the fun in between’ sees Rita delve into the depths of her inner self in an attempt to exorcise her (often troubled) relationship with people and the surrounding world – from her pet hates to her creative shortcomings, from her fundamental disbelief to her permanent feeling of displacement, from the myriad anxieties that accompany her on her daily quest to understand and fit in with the world to her failed social and interrelationship skills, from her difficulty in dealing with success and expectations to her experience of double standards and gender inequality.
