Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with a diversified roster of Portuguese and international artists connected with the urban inspired contemporary art universe, fostering the development of close relationships between creators, the public, and the city with the aim of promoting art as an everyday experience.

Taking advantage of the renovation works in progress at Underdogs Gallery, we have the pleasure to announce the group exhibition “Underdogs” in a temporary space in Príncipe Real, Lisbon, that seeks to reflect on the gallery's mission and the work of several of the artists we have been exhibiting over the last four years.
To mark the occasion we're launching the book “Underdogs”, which takes stock of the platform's years of activity in its three main fields of operation: Gallery, Public Art Programme, and Editions. A work signed by Pauline Foessel and Miguel Moore, with graphic design by João M. Machado.
“Underdogs is an incredible adventure. More than an adventure, it is a mission, a concept, but above all, a gamble: that of creating a platform that is artistically balanced between the streets of a city, the walls of a gallery, and the virtuality of a website. We took the risk of creating a triangle, of placing on the same scales three seemingly disparate fields: public art, gallery art, and artist editions. All with the idea of ensuring a perfect complementarity between them, offering the artists different areas of expression and nourishing their creative efforts. This is our vision.
Since 2010, we have endeavoured to participate humbly in Lisbon's art scene. We like to believe that we have known how to interact positively with the city, giving both its inhabitants and visitors new motives to explore and discover it.
Our artists have grown up in an urban environment that generates permanent, intense visual stimulation. They belong to a multicultural and multidimensional world. They draw inspiration from the chaos, the irregularities, the tensions present in our cities and societies. They create with all of their uniqueness but also all of their globality, and come from all corners of the world.
Our objective is for the multiple events we have organised to be seen as a synergy of talents and dedication whose results can be enjoyed equally by all.
Underdogs is, in short, the result of a chemistry generated by an amazing, passionate team and a group of talented artists inspired by the urban environment, ready to take up the challenge of giving new colour to Lisbon's art scene.”
