Created as part of the public awareness campaign Mais Ar Para Viver (More Air To Live), Mariana Malhão's mural reflects on breath as an essential yet often overlooked part of everyday life. Through a circular narrative of balloon-like forms reminiscent of bronchi, the work moves between images of vitality and fragility, evoking both the impact of respiratory disease and the possibility of care, regeneration, and hope.
Installed on the Air Quality Monitoring Station on Avenida da Liberdade, the mural establishes a direct relationship between the urban environment, air quality, and respiratory health. In doing so, it transforms a piece of technical infrastructure into a space for reflection, encouraging greater awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the importance of caring for the air we breathe.
