Conceived by Underdogs and developed in partnership with the Institut Français, the public art project (No) Borders aims to promote a creative coming together between four Portuguese artists and four French artists, leading to the creation of public art interventions in four coastal sister cities.
– Nazaré (Portugal): Tamara Alves & YZ
– Capbreton (France): Wasted Rita & Elea Jeanne Schmitter
– Porto (Portugal): ±MaisMenos± & RERO
– Bordeaux (France): Add Fuel & L’Atlas
Developed in the scope of the 2022 France-Portugal Season and curated by Pauline Foessel and Alexandre Farto aka Vhils, (No) Borders stands as an open dialogue between both countries. An open door, built from exchanges, visual and poetic comings and goings between creators within a common movement – urban culture – exploring aesthetic and conceptual works that, despite being underlined by evident differences, are encapsulated by a profound complementarity.

Portuguese artist Add Fuel (Diogo Machado) and French artist L’Atlas (Jules Dedet Granel) created a public art intervention that combines the calligraphic signature of L’Atlas with the geometric language present in the aesthetic of Add Fuel’s work. By deconstructing the signature in geometric layers and substituting the gray that usually assumes primacy in the French artist’s work for blue and white, colours coherently present in the work of Add Fuel, the artists have achieved a balanced and symbiotic coming together of their characteristic aesthetics. Both artists expressed a profound preoccupation with achieving a perceptible chromatic harmony. This conceptual equilibrium leads to a dialogue of both their visual forms in the same proposal.
