Thiago Nevs
A native of São Paulo, where he still lives today, Thiago Nevs (b. 1985) explores urban media connected with his daily life, contesting in an emblematic and metaphoric way the subversions that ravage society. Self-taught, his interest for visual creativity began in the late-1990s through the illegal practices of pichação and graffiti, still viewing today their character of transgression and appropriation as pillars of his training. Besides the tough reality of the streets, Nevs’ oeuvre contains in itself a criticism of sensitive issues of Brazilian society, such as inequality, segregation, politics, and religion, that turn into forces of creation, resistance and struggle.
