Tiago Hesp

Tiago Hesp (b. 1981) is a Portuguese artist with a multidisciplinary artistic career expressed through mural art, music, illustration, scenography, and painting. With a degree in Scenography from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School, Tiago Hesp has explored multiple techniques and approaches in his art, gaining visibility for his work in graffiti, a passion he has pursued since 1998. Hesp paints as an attempt to reconcile himself as a human being in the world, in a constant endeavour to find a sense of belonging that is uniquely his own. Emerging from darkness – depicted by the permanent black line and the assertiveness of its application – his artworks are an attempt to reconcile and balance the different forces that impact him, engaging in a battle where the self and the ego intersect and vie for dominance, seeking to soften into an intermediary point between black and the target.
