“1984” is one of those books that, every time I read it, I discover something new, I discover a new relationship with the reality we live in, especially at a particularly unusual moment in our history when we are dealing with a pandemic, with states of emergency, paranoia, rights curtailed by the confinement and a generalised climate of mistrust in which we are encouraged to monitor and denounce the others.
At this moment I cannot refrain from drawing a parallel between the reality we are living in and George Orwell's vision. For this reason, I believe that in times like these we should pay special attention to the way we treat each other, the way we deal with this unusual situation in a supportive and human way while always remaining concerned for the rights we take for granted and which are so easily curtailed in the name of the “new normal.” - AkaCorleone
