Created from a large tile-inspired composition, Calçada da Estrela takes the form of a series of 49 unique works. Characteristic of Manuela Pimentel's practice, materials collected from the street enter into dialogue with the visual language of the Portuguese azulejo. Through processes of cutting, layering, and recomposition, traces of typography, colour, and material are transformed into singular compositions that establish unexpected connections between contemporary urban life and cultural heritage.
