Francisco Diaz aka Pastel (b. 1986) is an Argentinian artist and architect. Distancing his practice from conventional art and architecture, he understands his work in the public space as a form of urban acupuncture, a means of reviving the memory and identity of neglected areas and countering the forces of gentrification. Basing his work on experiences, he seeks to understand the conditions offered by each particular environment and not impose a preset concept on the space. Making use of flora as social symbolism, his works begin a dialogue on the nature of human beings and their surroundings, highlighting the poetic elements of existence that have been almost forgotten in modernity. He has been presenting his work in art-related event and exhibitions since 2009.
