Elléna Lourens is a South African artist known for intimate figurative compositions that explore emotional connection and human presence. Through subtle line work and carefully balanced color palettes, she creates scenes that feel both personal and universal. Her practice spans murals, painting, and printmaking, often focusing on quiet moments of reflection and interpersonal relationships.
In Nairobi, Elléna Lourens experienced warmth and hospitality that reshaped her perception of connection across Africa. Inspired by Maasai textiles and the symbolic presence of blankets in daily life, she developed a composition centered on protection and comfort. The print portrays a figure wrapped in patterned fabric, embodying both literal observation and emotional memory. Through simplified forms and balanced color, the work conveys cultural richness and shared humanity, translating a welcoming experience into a tender visual statement.
