Martine Johanna is a Dutch artist known for her figurative paintings that explore psychological landscapes and feminine identity. Her work examines what she describes as the “female chimerical house,” a symbolic space reflecting emotional complexity within social structures. Through near-realistic imagery and layered narrative, Johanna investigates personal mythology and the inner architecture of experience.
In Gothenburg’s historic Landala Egnahem district, Martine Johanna discovered a preserved harmony between architecture and nature. Walking through snow-covered streets, she was drawn to the dark wooden houses and quiet winter light. The area’s timeless character inspired a merging of trees and structures within her composition. Her print evokes austere beauty through layered tones and careful detail, reflecting the stillness and mystery she experienced. The work becomes a symbolic dwelling—part shelter, part forest—capturing a fleeting sense of balance between human design and natural surroundings.
