Karabo Poppy is a South African illustrator and designer based in Johannesburg. Her work celebrates African culture through bold patterns, vibrant color, and dynamic compositions. Drawing inspiration from traditional aesthetics and contemporary urban life, she explores themes of identity, heritage, and cultural pride while creating visually powerful imagery that bridges past and present.
In Bangkok, Karabo Poppy encountered a seamless coexistence between city and nature, tradition and modernity. Conversations with local fishermen and observations of tattoo culture deepened her understanding of heritage evolving in contemporary contexts. Inspired by Muay Thai and community pride, she developed a composition celebrating cultural continuity. The print merges bold forms with symbolic references, expressing movement and resilience. It reflects her commitment to honoring roots while embracing exchange, capturing the vibrant energy that defines both Bangkok and her own artistic identity.
