Tuyo is the artistic moniker of German painter and printmaker David Schmitt, based in Barcelona. His work combines influences from folk art, pop culture, and primitive imagery to create bold, tactile compositions. Characterized by rough shapes and playful storytelling, his paintings and prints evoke a timeless, human-centered visual language.
At The Holdout in Portugal, Tuyo embraced creative retreat and simple routines. Harvesting apples, running through orchards, and later exploring Lisbon’s tiles and markets shaped his imagery. The print merges sardines, folk motifs, and autumn harvest into a playful narrative composition. Rooted in tactile textures and bold forms, the work reflects gratitude for focused time and cultural immersion.
