Swoon, the artistic name of Caledonia Curry, is a Brooklyn-based artist known for intricate portraiture and large-scale installations. Emerging from street art, she became widely recognized for her life-sized wheat-pasted figures. Her practice spans sculpture, animation, and social projects, often focusing on community engagement and social justice while exploring themes of empathy, resilience, and human connection.
In Sri Lanka, Swoon divided her time between meditation, drawing, and observing the ocean’s movement. Unexpectedly finding herself in a monastery during the onset of global lockdowns, she experienced a profound stillness shaped by ritual and nature. The rhythms of daily meditation and the sea’s swirling patterns informed her observational approach. Her print studies the water below Sunyata, translating its motion into intricate line work. The piece reflects a moment of pause and introspection, where environment and inner landscape merged into a quietly powerful visual meditation.
